As part of my work while in an Obama Foundation program, I planned a dinner & multi-sensory experience in the restaurant owned by a teammate’s parents. On Argyle for 30 years, it’s been feeding Argyle locals and elders, but now faces demographic shifts and the threat of construction.
The event explore past, present, and future with:
• A space decorated with 100+ years of newspaper headlines, photos, and ephemera,
• A playlist of sounds I recorded at area restaurants,
• Presentations on the eatery’s history, plus census data, and ethnic enclave literature.
The meal’s three courses were supplemented with personal histories, facts, and urban theory. After, guests moved to a neighboring cafe for drinks & dessert and more activities.
Attendees also received a zine I wrote & designed.
