Argyle Museum of Memories at the VAI Lunar New Year

I spent this past blistery Saturday with my friends at the Vietnamese Association of Illinois at their annual Lunar New Year celebration where I set up my roving Argyle Museum of Memories photo and oral history project to gather more snippets of memory about immigrant life in Chicago, specifically the Uptown area. Beforehand, I had my signs translated into Vietnamese and at the event, I spoke to dozens of curious attendees and relied on young people to translate my work and intent to their elders.

It was a productive day and I am glad to have experienced the event’s food, music, and dancing. I continue to find ways to speak to anyone about Argyle Street and to share my vast collection of archival photos, newspapers, and other materials – that now includes a growing number of touching, poignant, and moving memory snippers such as these.
